Indulgences

A busy day, but pretty unproductive in the scheme of "my to-do list..." Slept in a bit as Punky didn't get up too early this morning. It felt good to wake up at 8:30 AM...not too many more days of that for me. Schools starts in 13 days... Went to school/work to participate in the mentor/mentee program...it took longer than I expected so I didn't get anything done in my classroom! I need to unpack all nine thousand boxes and get all of those COLORFUL items on my wall...Open House is next week already! Yikes! came home tonight and made dinner for punky and then for us...indulged in some merlot...one of my 3 evils ( Merlot , homemade chocolate chip cookies , and Caribou Coffee ) We watched a Seinfeld episode on DVD. Punky's top teeth are trying to break through so between all of that, we were interrupted several times by cries from the baby monitor...Punky had lost his Nuk . After all of these activities, I had to sit down and figure out what my school means to me so that I can get up and speak tomorrow during the mentor/mentee session. And, God how I love public speaking!
“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.” - Jerry Seinfeld
My sentiments exactly! :) Anyway, I came up with what my school means to me: My school is a family... A family where you’re accepted 100% A family who puts kids first and encourages you to be your best A family where you are free to fall down, get back up, brush yourself off and forge ahead trying new things A family where it’s ok to celebrate your successes no matter how great or small A family where you have support for those days when things don’t go right A family where you run and cry when things in life come crashing down upon you A family where you run to celebrate the life-defining moments you experience A family where there’s always someone who can relate to you and your experiences A family where there is always someone willing to listen A family where there is always someone to laugh with you A family where there is always someone to cry with you A family where there is always someone looking out for you A family where everyone supports you and your decisions A family where you are gently prodded to become the best that you can be A family where you are challenged and stretched daily to make you a better educator, and more importantly a better person A family where you are welcomed every day with many smiles, laughter, and well wishes A family that just makes work not seem like work! A family where everyone blossoms and thrives because of each other… That's how I feel about school everyday...Not too shabby. :) I love doing what I do. I couldn't imagine doing a job that you didn't like or enjoy 100%. I guess I am very fortunate! Tomorrow, I go back to work to give my thoughts to the new teachers, work on my classroom, and help out my mentee. On Friday, we're going to the Minnesota State Fair . :) Don't laugh...it's fun! I love the fair! Not too sure what the weekend holds... Good night...
